What to Expect During Your First Visit to Hobart Baptist Church.
What Kind of Church is Hobart Baptist Church?
We are a conservative Southern Baptist church, which believes the basic biblical doctrines for which Baptists have historically stood. We believe in a literal interpretation of Scripture, unless the text makes clear that it is speaking in metaphor or allegory. We are Baptists by conviction and principle, not merely by affiliation.
- As Baptists, we believe—
- The Bible is our sole authority for all matters of faith and practice.
- The church should be autonomous or self-governing.
- The believer does not need a priest other than Jesus Christ to come boldly to God.
- Every Christian has equal access to God personally.
- God’s Word gives us two ordinances for the church—baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
- Each person is individually responsible for his or her decision to accept Christ.
- Every true born-again believer is eternally secure and cannot lose salvation.
What Are Our Services Like?
Our services usually last around an hour and consist of two parts, music and preaching. You can expect to be warmly welcomed and spoken to by many. Our motto: “The End of Your Search for a Friendly Church,” is very true. We pride ourselves to live by that motto.
Our music is traditional and conservative. We still like to sing the old hymns our grandparents used to sing because there is so much doctrine in those anointed songs. We mix in some choruses here and there as well. Each Sunday we will have a soloist or a trio present us with special music just prior to the sermon. A piano and organ provide our worship music, with occasional guitar and violin for special music.
The main focus of each service is the preaching of God’s Word. Our pastor or a guest speaker will give a biblical message that encourages us in our walk with the Lord, challenges us, or addresses the problems of life. We believe the Bible has the answer to every problem and the power to comfort, correct, or instruct every need.
We also meet on Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm. That service also has two parts: Music and Teaching. Currently Our pastor writing and teaching a Biblical Survey of the Old Testament. Every fourth Sunday we have a special service with all singing. We join with another congregation to worship the Lord through music and singing. It is open for all believers to participate if they so choose.
Wednesday night we meet at 6:00pm for prayer meeting. During that time we sing and focus primarily on prayer, seeking the Lord on behalf of our members and non-members alike, as well as our community.
What is at Hobart Baptist for my Children?
At this time, we are a church filled with grandparents. But we do have accommodations for children. We have a nursery for babies and toddlers; we have Sunday School for elementary age children and Youth. We do encourage parents to bring their children to our primary worship services. We love the sight and sound of children and young people in our midst.
On your first visit, ask one of our members and we’ll be happy to help you find the appropriate nursery, classroom, and services for every person in your family.
Will I Be Asked for Money?
No. During every service, we discuss briefly our giving opportunities, but that is simply the nature of how we must function in this world. Our offering plates are located on a table in the entry way as people come and go. No one will know if donate to our church or not. Our members regularly give tithes and offerings to finance the ministries of the church. But you, as visitor, will not be asked for money. You may, however, be asked to fill out a visitor card, if this is your first visit, so that we have a record of your visit with us. We truly want the service to be our gift to you. We want you to come, feel right at home, and feel no obligation to give anything.
What should I wear?
There is not a dress code at Hobart Baptist Church for members or guests. Our ministry leaders and some of our church family might dress in more traditional “Sunday” dress. But a lot of the time we wear boots and jeans as well. However, our main goal is that you would feel welcome and comfortable on your visit here. So wear what makes you comfortable in public.
